Xianyi Book House, Huan Tan Village, Hangzhou, Zhejiang

Yixue is the most important of the five virtues of Huan Tan Village. In the past, there were five private schools and book houses in Huan Tan, and Xianyi Book House was one of them. In 1803, gentry Tian Zunxian and his son Tian Xingyi donated a private school, a small two-entry courtyard, 65.2 mu of land, 1.1 mu of land, 0.5 mu of pond, and 6.3 mu of mountain. The book house was named Xianyi Book House, with one character taken from each of the names of Tian Zunxian and his son Tian Xingyi. Since then, the teaching expenses of the private school and the free tuition for the poor have been paid from the income of the property. Today, Xianyi Book House has been converted into a book bar and tea bar. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Zhejiang Province.
