Recommended Clothing
————————————
Clothing for snow travel ❄️ Temperature -12°C, feels like -20°C
Here’s a simple guide from my experience:
Lightweight clothes in 3 layers
Pants in 2 layers
If you get very cold easily, you might need to add one more layer of either thin thermal underwear or pants.
I’ll go from head to toe, highlighting the most important points:
1. Hat covering the head and ears, and a scarf — choose any style but make sure to have both. If your outermost jacket has a hood, you might skip the hat.
2. Clothing
• Thermal underwear as the innermost layer — I recommend buying the fleece-lined type first because it makes wearing the 2nd and 3rd layers much easier.
• Second layer shirt — I tried regular long-sleeve shirts, fleece-lined shirts, and winter vests. All three work, but in Harbin city, the wind is strong and very cold, so at least wear a regular long-sleeve shirt.
• Outermost jacket — call this the third layer. Invest in one with a hood; it helps a lot.
3. Gloves *** This is classic and should be touchscreen-friendly. I recommend fleece-lined gloves.
** Thin fabric or touchscreen gloves don’t really hold up in subzero temps. Within 30 seconds, you’ll have to tuck your hands inside your jacket.
4. Pants
• Thermal underwear as the innermost layer — again, fleece-lined is recommended because two layers of pants are enough.
• Outer pants or the second layer after fleece-lined thermal underwear — I recommend fleece-lined pants. At first, I tried only fleece-lined pants without thermal underwear and felt a bit cold on the legs. On the second day, I added fleece-lined thermal underwear and it was perfect.
5. Shoes — here’s my story: when I went to Harbin, I bought waterproof shoes 📌. I personally don’t focus much on the brand but on having fleece lining inside and soles suitable for walking on snow.
But I recommend wearing fleece-lined socks and textured insoles to ensure your feet won’t get cold.
