💡 Restaurant Name: Rei-chan Hiroshima Okonomiyaki
💡 Location: EKIE 1F Food Court, North Exit (Shinkansen Exit) of JR Hiroshima Station
💡 Dish: Special No. 12
💡 Price: ¥1550
💡 Seating: The teppanyaki grill has counter seating suitable for one person, as well as tables for two or four.
There are four okonomiyaki restaurants in the food court on the first floor of EKIE, North Exit of Hiroshima Station, and Rei-chan is one of them. There was a line of about 20 people, but the tables were turned over fairly quickly.
While waiting in line, the waiter will first provide the menu and confirm the following information: whether you can choose between udon or regular ramen, and whether you prefer a table or counter. Although the waiter doesn't speak English, he does his best to explain the menu in simple English to foreigners and is very polite, truly a renowned Hiroshima Okonomiyaki restaurant.
After about 20 minutes, I finally got a seat at the counter. Eight chefs were preparing various types of Hiroshima-style omelets up front. Watching their skillful stir-frying up close was truly impressive. I ordered the special dish number 12, which included vegetables 🥬, egg 🥚, domestic pork 🥩, squid 🦑, and shrimp 🦐. After about three minutes, the chef brought the pan-fried Hiroshima-style omelets directly to my table. Next to the table, there were three sauces (spicy, sweet, and normal) along with shichimi and pepper for free use. I saw locals smothering the omelets with them, so I tried all three. They were all delicious, but a bit too salty for my taste. Without the sauces, the flavor wasn't there.
Eating Hiroshima-style omelets on the teppanyaki plate is truly special. Every bite was piping hot, and the charred bits were delicious. The portions were huge, and the line was so long, it was quite stressful. I had expected poor service based on previous reviews, but I was surprised by how attentive the staff were. They also accepted transportation IC cards and credit cards, which was very convenient. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Hiroshima. 👍👍👍
