Poon Hill - Sunrise Magic in the Annapurnas

The short but rewarding trek to Poon Hill (3,210m) offers one of Nepal's most accessible and spectacular mountain vistas without requiring weeks of hiking. The pre-dawn climb to the viewpoint is well worth the effort when the first light reveals a breathtaking panorama of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and other Himalayan giants glowing in golden hues.

What makes Poon Hill special is its perfect balance of effort and reward. The 4-5 day Ghorepani loop trek through rhododendron forests and traditional villages is manageable for most fitness levels, while still providing a genuine Himalayan experience. The stone-paved trail, well-maintained teahouses, and the camaraderie among trekkers add to the enjoyment.

While crowded during peak seasons, there's a reason this remains one of Nepal's most popular short treks. The sunrise view alone justifies every step, and the journey through charming Gurung villages like Ghorepani and Ghandruk offers wonderful cultural encounters.

Rating: 4.5/5 - Best short trek in the Annapurna region
Tip: Start the final climb by 4:30am to secure a good viewing spot. Pack warm layers - it's freezing before sunrise! Consider extending to Tadapani for quieter mountain views.
