The stunning sunset at Lion Rock 🌅, the unforgettable night view 🌃

As the most symbolic hiking landmark in Hong Kong, Lion Rock is definitely a must-try route for every hiking enthusiast! This time I chose to start from Wong Tai Sin MTR Station at 3 pm, pass through Tianma Garden in the direction of Chuk Yuen, and walk along Jinzhuli to the entrance of Lion Rock Country Park. The stairs on the right side outside the park gate are the starting point for climbing. The first section of the stone steps is gentle and there are dense shades of trees on both sides. Even if the afternoon sun is scorching, it is still cool and comfortable walking in the woods.
As the altitude gradually rises, the scenery of Kowloon city slowly unfolds beneath your feet. From the densely packed housing estates to the Victoria Harbour in the distance, the view becomes increasingly magnificent. There are rest stops and signposts along the way, the route is clear and easy to follow, and you will reach the top of Lion Mountain in about two hours. It was dusk when we reached the top. The afterglow of the setting sun cast a golden hue on the skyscrapers on both sides of the Victoria Harbour. The IFC in Central and the Clock Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui were in full view. The scenery was stunning! However, the "Lion's Head" section at the top of the mountain is quite narrow, and some parts require the use of hands and feet to maintain balance. In addition, there are strong winds, so you must be careful when walking. In addition, there are many tourists at dusk and the narrow mountain trails are easily congested. It is recommended to wait patiently or climb to the summit at a different time.
The view from the top of the mountain is unparalleled. Not only can you overlook the skyline of Hong Kong Island, but you can also see the mountains of the New Territories in the distance. Since you need to be extra careful when going down the mountain after dark, it is recommended to wear non-slip hiking shoes to cope with steep sections. Overall, this route is of medium difficulty and is suitable for hikers with a certain level of physical fitness. The entire journey takes about 3 to 4 hours (including photo breaks).
Kind tips:
1. Bring enough drinking water (there are no supply points along the way)
2. The temperature drops after sunset, so it is recommended to bring a windproof jacket
3. The trail at the top of the mountain is narrow, please pay attention to safety and give way to other hikers
4. Beginners can consider climbing the summit from the fifth section of the MacLehose Trail in reverse, which is slightly less difficult
