Tai Kwun in Central has a history of over a hundred years

Tai Kwun in Central has a history of over a hundred years and is composed of 16 magnificent historic buildings. It is not only a declared monument of Hong Kong but also one of the popular check-in landmarks in Central. This time, we visited 1862 BAR DE TAPAS Y VINO, located next to the Prison Yard of Tai Kwun. The name 1862 commemorates the year the D Block of Victoria Prison was built. The restaurant preserves the original appearance of the Central Police Station compound, including most of the British classical elements such as brick structures and arches. It combines 19th-century Victorian architecture with modern design, exuding a vintage European charm. There is outdoor seating with a more open environment, allowing diners to enjoy the historic buildings of Tai Kwun while eating. The menu focuses on seafood from the coastal areas of northern and central Spain, which is relatively rare in Hong Kong, preserving traditional cooking methods while incorporating fusion elements.

Iberico Ham Croquettes $28/pc
A signature popular tapa, the croquettes are deep-fried at high temperature, with a golden crispy exterior. The filling is made from diced Iberico ham mixed with potatoes, cream, and other ingredients, offering a sweet and soft texture.

Spanish Potato Omelette $88
The Spanish potato omelette is considered a signature dish of Spanish cuisine. The thick omelette is pan-fried to an enticing golden color, with every bite filled with rich egg aroma. When cut open, it has a runny center mixed with tender sliced potatoes, creating a layered texture and flavor.

Ribeye Steak with Green Pepper Sauce and Fried Onions $198
The ribeye steak was ordered medium-well, with precise heat control. The meat is juicy, with a charred aroma from grilling. The texture is tender and soft, with little fat and a strong beef flavor. Topped with green pepper sauce and fried onions, it enhances the taste and balances the richness of the meat.

Ice Cream Sandwich $48
Vanilla ice cream is sandwiched between two round-shaped Spanish churros, creating a contrast of hot and cold sensations. The churros are soft and crispy on the outside, tender inside, sprinkled with fragrant cinnamon sugar powder, and served with dark chocolate sauce.
