For a budget-friendly and historic experience, YHA Mei Ho House is unique. It’s a converted 1950s public housing block in Sham Shui Po, now transformed into a modern youth hostel with a cultural twist.
📍 Location & Arrival
Located in Sham Shui Po, one of Hong Kong’s most authentic neighborhoods, the hostel is about a 10-minute walk from the MTR. The building has been preserved to reflect old Hong Kong living, and there’s even a Heritage Museum inside.
🛏️ Room Experience
I stayed in a Twin Room (USD 40–70 per night). Simple but clean, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and private bathroom. Dormitory options are even cheaper (~USD 25 per bed).
The highlight was the nostalgic décor — retro furnishings and wall art that showcase Hong Kong’s 1950s–70s life.
🍽️ Dining & Food
There’s a café on site, but the real food adventure is outside — Sham Shui Po is famous for street food like claypot rice, egg waffles, and dim sum.
💆 Facilities & Service
Facilities include laundry rooms, a common lounge, and even guided tours around the neighborhood. Staff were welcoming and happy to share cultural stories about the area.
🌟 Final Thoughts
YHA Mei Ho House is ideal for budget travelers and culture lovers. Staying here feels like stepping back into old Hong Kong while still enjoying modern comforts.
