Restaurant: Wadoya (Tsim Sha Tsui)
Address: G/F & Mezzanine, Hang Lung Bank Building, 46-48 Granville Road, Tsim Sha Tsui
Japanese izakayas are quite common, but have you ever tried a Japanese buffet at an izakaya? Wadoya in Tsim Sha Tsui has introduced a semi-buffet "Premium Set Menu" over the past year. For just $388 during lunch or $498 for dinner, you can enjoy 90 minutes or 2 hours of luxurious Japanese cuisine, including snow crab, Hokkaido crab legs, sashimi, skewers, and unlimited sushi. For dinner, you can also indulge in hot pot meats and Hiroshima oysters, attracting many foodies to feast here.
During a weekday lunch visit, the restaurant was bustling with diners, and almost every table was enjoying the semi-buffet set menu. It’s no surprise, given the high quality and value! Even if you’re dining alone, you can enjoy your meal alongside the No-Face figure downstairs. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, explaining the semi-buffet menu in detail for first-timers.
The meal starts with a Japanese-style salad and a five-color sashimi sea urchin cone, filled with sea urchin, tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and minced tuna in a crispy cone. The sashimi is so smooth and fresh, it feels like eating savory ice cream. Next, you can choose one of three appetizers: a mixed sashimi platter with fresh salmon, yellowtail, tuna, sea bream, and abalone; four creamy and sweet fresh oysters from Hyogo Prefecture, Japan; or a selection of six skewers, including chicken cartilage, caramelized pineapple, chicken wings, tender A4 Wagyu beef, shiitake mushrooms, and thick-cut beef tongue, all freshly grilled by the chef.
For the main course, each person can choose between grilled Hokkaido crab legs or Japanese sakura wood-smoked snow crab. I personally loved the former, with its thick, juicy crab meat carrying a hint of ocean saltiness. It’s highly recommended! The latter features rich crab roe but has more shells and membranes.
Next up are 12 types of unlimited sushi. My favorites were the seared A4 Wagyu beef, seared flounder fin, and premium fatty tuna sushi. The rice is marinated with red vinegar, adding a tangy flavor that enhances the taste. Additionally, the lunch menu includes limited hot pot options, with each person allowed two plates of Miyazaki A4 Wagyu beef, Hokkaido pork, and Hiroshima oysters. I chose the sea urchin lobster soup base, made by slow-cooking lobster and adding fresh sea urchin and soy milk for a rich and flavorful broth. For dinner, hot pot ingredients are unlimited.
Before leaving, there’s red bean ice cream for dessert. We also added a $68 unlimited non-alcoholic drink package, or for $98, you can include four types of sake and one draft beer. I tried the Lotte pineapple aloe and Japanese Kyoho grape soda, which were refreshing and thirst-quenching. After the meal, I was completely satisfied. If you consider yourself a big eater, don’t miss this place!
