Hong Kong Newbie Hiking 🍀 Maoping Tenghuang + Bamboo Forest Tunnel Route

The temperature has been cool recently and the sun is not strong, which is perfect for hiking. This time I chose a beginner route that is easy to walk. There are shade trees and check-in spots along the way.

Ma On Shan Tai Shui Hang➡️Mei Tsz Lin➡️Maoping Ancient Trail➡ 🤳Maoping Abandoned House➡️Maoping Au➡️🤳Maoping Tenghuang➡️Pak Kong Ancient Trail➡️🤳Bamboo Forest Tunnel➡️🏆Pak Kong, Sai Kung

We started from Ma Tie Dashuikeng Station, went to Meizilin via Meizilin Road, and then took Maoping Ancient Road to Maopingao. (Figure 2) Since there were many ancient villages in the Maoping area, this road was the main passage for the villagers in the past. The ancient road is paved with stones, so be careful of the slippery road when the weather is wet. (Figures 3 and 4)

Along the way, you will pass by the ruins of Maoping Ancient House, which is one of the check-in points. (Figure 5)
After walking slowly for about 45 minutes, you will reach an open flat area where there are several rest areas. Next to the pavilion is the path leading to Mao Ping Tenghuang, which is one of the rare plants in Hong Kong, Tenghuang, also known as "Crossing River Dragon". The trunk of the Tenghuang tree is thick and knot-shaped, with vines and branches crisscrossing, making it the most iconic check-in point on this hiking route. (Pictures 6-9) The scenery along the way is beautiful, and you can overlook the Saigon Thousand Islands Lake and Baisha Bay from the higher parts of the mountain. (Figures 10-11)

Take another ancient road, Beigang Ancient Road, and you will see a bamboo tunnel along the way. The green bamboos on both sides grow in curves to form a natural arched tunnel. Although the path is not long, you can still take many beautiful photos with it as the background. (Figures 12 to 14)

Walk slowly towards Beigang and you will soon reach the foot of the mountain. Once you arrive at Sai Kung Highway, there will be transportation back to the city. (Figures 15 to 18)
