A classic Banff activity you can't miss is the Sulphur Mountain Gondola.
Simply choosing the right access and time can make all the difference in your comfort and satisfaction! ✍️
🚌 Access Tips (From Town to the Gondola)
・Banff Downtown → Sulphur Mountain Gondola is approximately 4.5km.
・We recommend taking the city bus to get there!
✔️ Roam Bus Route 1 (Route 1: Banff Gondola / Hot Springs)
✔️ Travel Time: Approximately 15 minutes
✔️ Bus Frequency: Every 20-30 minutes
✔️ Fare: Approximately 2 CAD (IC card and cash accepted)
We received a free 3-day ticket at the hotel! 🎫
・It stops right next to the gondola, so you won't get lost.
➡️ On the way back, take the direct tourist shuttle.
It goes directly to the town center, making it easy to get back, even in the evening. (Free)
👉 Cheap and efficient on the way there, and a comfortable return.
This combination is perfect!
🕖 Best Time to Visit
・Morning or evening is recommended!
✔️ Morning: Clear air allows for long-distance views.
✔️ Evening: Enjoy the sunset and city lights at the same time.
・Be aware that daytime traffic can get quite busy.
I went in the morning and had lunch at the summit in the afternoon.🍽️
I took my time before heading back to the city.🚌
👀 Highlights
・The gondola ride takes about 8 minutes to reach the summit.
(Reservations for the gondola are required! I made my reservation the day before.
July 2025)
・360-degree panoramic views from the observation deck!
👉 Panoramic views of Banff town, the Rocky Mountains, and even the Bow River.
・Take the Skywalk (boardwalk trail: photos 4-5)
A 15-20 minute walk will take you to the site of the former weather station.
Recommended for its breathtaking views.
Lunch and dinner are available at the mountaintop restaurant "Sky Bistro" (reservations recommended).
There are also souvenir magnets that aren't available in the city.
🎒 What to Pack
✔️ Jacket (it's chilly at the summit, even in summer)
✔️ Sunglasses (protect from the high-altitude sun)
✔️ Drinks (there are shops, but they're pricey)
✔️ Camera and tripod (perfect for night views)
✅ Tips
- Efficient route to the summit: Take the city bus (Roam Route 1)
- Comfortable route back: Take the tourist shuttle
- Aim for distant views in the morning, and sunsets and night views in the evening
- Enjoy the observation deck and skywalk
- Don't forget to avoid temperature differences and crowds!
