
Mangshan Town, formerly known as Dang and also known as Shanchengji, is named after Mangdang Mountain. It is located in the northern part of Yongcheng City, Henan Province. It covers a total area of 71 square kilometers, one-fifth of which is mountainous. It governs 26 administrative villages and has a population of 64,100 (as of 2015). The town government is located in Fuqian Road. In 2016, the town achieved a GDP of 1.46 billion yuan and fiscal revenue of 34.86 million yuan.
Mangshan Town boasts the Mangdang Mountain Han Culture Scenic Area, a national 5A-level tourist attraction. Known as the "place where the Han Dynasty began," Mangdang Mountain is the site where Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, slew a snake and launched an uprising. The 14-square-kilometer scenic area boasts attractions such as the Han Liangwang Tombs, the site where Liu Bang slew the snake, the Magnificent Spirit of the Han Dynasty, the Mangdang Mountain Geological Park, the Tomb of Chen Sheng, and Confucius Cliff, as well as the millennia-old Mangdang Mountain Ancient Temple Fair. Mangdang Mountain is a national pilot unit for standardization of Han cultural heritage services and one of Henan Province's ten cultural industry clusters during the 12th Five-Year Plan period.
Mangshan Town is a town with Chinese characteristics, a national key town, a national development and reform pilot town, a national small town construction pilot town, a famous town in Zhongzhou, a central town planned and constructed in Henan Province, a key demonstration town in Henan Province, and a science popularization demonstration town for striving for a well-off society in Henan Province; it is also the sub-central city of Yongcheng.
Mangshan Town has a warm temperate semi-humid monsoon climate with distinct four seasons, abundant rainfall, moderate temperatures, and more solar radiation in the summer than in the winter. Summers are hot and rainy, while winters are cold and snowy, making it a suitable season for travel.
