The Topkapi Palace (Topkapı Sarayı) was the center of power of the Ottoman Empire for 400 years, and the "Gate of Reverence" (Bâb-ı Hümâyun) was the first gate into the palace, also known as the "Imperial Gate". This door not only symbolizes the majesty and power of the empire, but also is the starting point to the Sultan's palace and luxurious life.
🔹 Features of the Gate of Reverence
✔ The majestic stone gate - the towering gate tower is engraved with Arabic calligraphy, recording the glory of the Ottoman Empire.
✔ Connecting to the Old City of Istanbul - This gate faces Hagia Sophia and symbolizes the fusion of Christian and Islamic cultures.
✔ The first level to enter the palace - after passing through this door, you will come to the "First Courtyard" (Court of Janissaries), which was the garrison of the Guards in those days.
✔ Witness the Sultan's coronation and diplomatic ceremonies - Successive Sultans received envoys and issued edicts here. It was one of the political centers of the Ottoman Empire.
