🌿 Reflecting in Peace – A Visit to Peace Memorial Park, Okinawa

When we visited Peace Memorial Park in Okinawa, it was quiet and serene, with very few people around. That quietness, paired with the open expanse of green grass and solemn monuments, gave the park a tranquil, reflective atmosphere. It truly lived up to its name.

The park itself is massive, with various designated zones that pay tribute to the different groups of individuals who lost their lives during the tragic Battle of Okinawa in World War II. There’s a deep sense of loss and remembrance here, yet also a strong message of hope and peace.

One of the most moving moments was just strolling slowly through the grassy expanse, watching the wind move through the trees, and soaking in the silence. Off to the right, the cliffs overlook a stunning view of the blue sea—calm, powerful, and healing. It’s hard to imagine that such a peaceful place was once the site of such immense suffering.

I came away from the visit reminded of the brutality of war but also deeply appreciative of the times of peace we often take for granted. This park isn’t just a tourist attraction—it’s a place to pause, reflect, and remember.
