Okinawa Peace Memorial Park - Southern Memorial Hill

Okinawa Peace Memorial Park is located in Itoman City, on the southern tip of Okinawa Main Island. Accessible from Naha by bus or car, it takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes. By bus, take bus number 89 from Naha Bus Terminal to Itoman, then transfer to bus number 82 and get off at the "Peace Memorial Hall Entrance." It's a 10-minute walk to the park. Driving is much more convenient.

The park is vast, organized along the mountainside into several areas, including a monument dedicated to the names of the Okinawa War Dead, a memorial hall, and a museum. The overall design integrates the terrain and nature, with spacious trails, accessible spaces, and a solemn and tranquil atmosphere. In spring and summer, vibrant flowers bloom in profusion, especially along the path from the entrance to the main facility, where impatiens, bougainvillea, and other native Okinawan plants are planted. The floral scene blends beautifully with the azure sea and sky, creating a truly soothing atmosphere.

The park also features a beautifully designed children's play area, featuring a play space that incorporates natural elements and terrain, including a large slide, climbing nets, and rock climbing facilities, making it perfect for families.

This park not only commemorates war history but also invites reflection on the meaning of peace. Combining landscape, history, and leisure activities, it's a cultural landmark not to be missed on any visitor to Okinawa.
