The Great Buddha Statue in Kamakura

This is the famous Great Buddha statue located at Kotoku-in Temple (高徳院) in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

Key Information:
- The statue was created in 1252
- Height: approximately 11.4 meters without the pedestal
- Weight: about 121 tons
- Material: bronze (originally covered in gold)

Originally, the statue was housed inside a wooden temple, but after a tsunami in 1498 destroyed the building, the Buddha has remained outdoors ever since.
