The Kamakura Great Buddha is one of Kamakura’s most representative photo spots. Whether it’s religious beliefs, history and culture or photography, it’s worth a visit. The Great Buddha is majestic and majestic, nestled in an open square surrounded by greenery, which simply calms the mind. It is a must-visit place to slow down and enjoy every day.
🗺️ Recommended route
It is recommended to hike from Kamakura Station in the direction of “Hase” for about 20 minutes to reach the Kamakura Great Buddha, while admiring Japanese huts and specialty shops along the way. If you have plenty of time, you can visit the nearby Hasegas Temple or Yubihama Beach to make up a leisurely sightseeing half-day tour.
🌟 Must-play items & photo spots
- The Great Buddha Body: The Kamakura Great Buddha is about 13.35 meters tall and is the second largest Buddha statue in Japan. It is recommended to shoot with a wide angle, the big Buddha plus the blue sky, the panoramic view is spectacular.  
- Interior visit: For a small fee, it is a very unique experience to enter the interior of the Great Buddha and feel the structure inside the statue.  
- Front yard path: The front yard has a particularly beautiful view during the cherry blossom/maple season.
📸 Play tips
1. Recommended to visit in the morning or dusk, less popular, photography will not be so many people blocking the background.  
2. The area of the Great Buddha is not large, worship and photography can be reserved for about 1 hour, do not have to be too anxious.  
3. There is a souvenir shop and snacks downstairs, want to buy characteristic Kamakura limited souvenirs can slowly look.
⚠️Precautions
- Open every April 1 to September 30 is 08:00-17:30 (17:15 entry latest);  
- The Big Buddha is well maintained but is an outdoor facility. Remember to bring rain gear in rainy days.  
- Follow the regulations of heavy attractions, keep quiet and do not touch the Buddha statue.
