Agarwal & Enoshima

Kamakura is an ancient city full of ancient atmosphere. For this reason, the streets are relatively narrow. We first visited the Daibutsuden Kotoku Temple, where there is a giant Buddha statue with a height of 13.35m including the base. It is one of the three largest Buddha statues in Japan. The interior of the Buddha is hollow, and visitors can enter from the bottom behind the statue to visit. From Kamakura, we headed along the coast to Enoshima. Along the way, the sea and sky merged into one, and the beach was filled with surfers, full of sunshine. It takes less than 20 minutes by car to reach Enoshima. It is said that 20,000 years ago, this place was separated from the land due to rising water levels and became an island. However, after the Great Kanto Earthquake, the entire island rose and was connected to the land again, thus becoming a tourist attraction. We only visited Omotesando here, because we spent quite a bit of time tasting the shrimp cakes made from whole fresh shrimps and the cuttlefish cakes made from whole fresh cuttlefish. We thought we could spend another whole day touring the shrines and observatory on the island, so we left with reluctance and will come back for a deeper tour of Kamakura next time.
