The No.1 Family Destination in Western Sichuan! Be a Prairie Herder for a Week in Xinduqiao, where the Kid’s Camera Ran Out of Battery

Some say Xinduqiao is a "Photographer’s Paradise," but I say it’s even more a "Natural Playground for Kids"! This time, I brought my 5-year-old Tangdou, and we stayed here for three days, completely overturning the usual rushed sightseeing trip.

🌿 Key Tips: Various Ways to Enjoy a Family Trip in Xinduqiao

Core Attractions: This is not a closed scenic area but a scenic corridor stretching over ten kilometers. The highlights are on both sides of National Highway G318, towards the Tagong Grassland and Jiagenba directions.

Top 3 Family Must-Do Experiences:

Tagong Grassland Horseback Riding: Find a local herder to lead a horse and take your kid for a slow ride around the grassland (about 30 minutes, price negotiable). Tangdou sat on the horse, instantly gaining a higher perspective, excitedly pointing at the distant yak herds and snow-capped mountains. The key is safety; the herder holds the horse throughout.

Jiagenba Valley Countryside Adventure: Compared to the main road, I recommend Jiagenba more! There are small bridges, flowing streams, Tibetan-style houses, and barley fields with more beautiful scenery. Throw stones by the creek with your kid, watch herds of yaks cross the river, run along the ridges of barley fields, and with sunlight pouring down, it’s the most beautiful childhood scene.

Wait for a Light and Shadow Magic Show: The charm of Xinduqiao lies in its light and shadow. In the early morning or evening, bring your kid, no need to go to any viewing platform, just find a safe spot by the roadside to park. Watch the sunlight gradually dye the Yala Snow Mountain red, see the light dance on the poplar trees and Tibetan houses, and tell your kid stories about "light" and "shadows."

💡 In-Depth Family-Friendliness Analysis

Altitude Adaptation: Xinduqiao is about 3,300 meters above sea level, the first high-altitude accommodation point entering Western Sichuan. We chose a guesthouse with oxygen supply equipment, didn’t let the kid run or jump vigorously on the first day, slowed down activities, and drank plenty of warm water. Tangdou adapted very well.

Pace of the Trip: Don’t rush! We treated this place as our base camp, going in only one direction each day, and resting at the guesthouse when tired. Slow is the essence of family travel.

Accommodation Choices: Highly recommend guesthouses like Dengfenglai or Kangding Yunman Mountain Residence, which have floor heating, oxygen supply, and great views. You can see the starry sky from the room at night, which the kid loved.

🍂 Autumn Exclusive Activities (Late September to Late October)

Autumn in Xinduqiao is top-notch! Golden poplar forests, blue skies, and white snow mountains. Walk with your kid into a golden forest, step on thick fallen leaves that rustle, and we collected leaves of various shapes to make a plant specimen book when we returned.

✨ Our Gains:

On this trip, Tangdou learned new words like "plateau," "yak," and "barley." More importantly, she felt the vastness of the world. Isn’t travel just an extension of the classroom?
