Fukui might not be the first place that comes to mind when planning a trip to Japan—but that’s exactly what makes it so special. It’s quiet, scenic, and full of unexpected charm. Perfect for a laid-back day of exploring.
First stop: the Fukui Dinosaur Museum, one of the best in Asia! Giant skeletons, life-sized models, and interactive exhibits make it just as exciting for adults as it is for kids.
After that burst of prehistoric energy, I took a peaceful stroll through Heisenji Hakusan Shrine—a moss-covered temple with ancient stone paths and forest surroundings. It’s the kind of place that feels like it belongs in a Studio Ghibli film.
Nearby is Shirayama Shrine, equally serene and rich in history.
To end the day, I stopped at Lovely Bokujo Milk Chaya for soft serve ice cream. Rich, creamy, and made with local milk—it was the perfect way to wrap up a gentle, satisfying day.
Why I recommend Fukui:
・It’s full of hidden gems that mix nature, culture, and fun in the best way
・Crowd-free and calm—ideal for a slow, refreshing getaway
📍Katsuyama & Hakusan area, Fukui Prefecture, Japan
