Colored lakes at the peak of a volcano

Kelimutu is a volcano in central Flores, Indonesia, near the small town of Moni. It's about 50 kilometers east of Ende, Indonesia, which serves as the capital of the Ende regency in East Nusa Tenggara province. It features three different colored volcanic crater lakes.

The three colored lakes at the peak of Mount Kelimutu are undoubtedly Flores' most beautiful natural attraction. Each of the three lakes has a distinct color, ranging from blue and green to murky brown and black, depending on the season and time of year. The 20-kilometer journey is well worth it just to see these three magnificent lakes. You can alternatively take public transportation to a parking lot and walk to the lakes for a 30-minute trek.
