Kochi Castle: One of Japan's 12 Remaining Original Castles

Kochi Castle, located in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, is one of Japan's twelve remaining original castles. It is the only castle in the country where both the castle keep (Tenshu) and the main palace (Honmaru Goten) are preserved on their original site. Built in 1601 by Kazutoyo Yamanouchi, the castle retains its historical Edo-period charm. It is about a 20-minute walk from JR Kochi Station.

Summers can be very hot, and climbing the stairs to the castle keep requires some effort, so be sure to stay hydrated. After exploring Kochi Castle, you can visit the nearby Hirome Market for a bite to eat. On weekends, there are also markets to browse.
