Kochi Castle, one of Japan's twelve remaining castle towers, was built in 1603, boasting over 400 years of history. The castle walls are remarkably well-preserved, with the main keep and main gate (Otemon Gate) still extant – a feat only three other castles in Japan boast. Climbing the keep offers panoramic views of Kochi City and the surrounding mountains and sea. Inside, the castle retains its wooden staircases and samurai-era furnishings, echoing history at every step. From spring cherry blossoms to summer greenery, autumn maples to winter snow, Kochi Castle transforms with each new look each season.
