Kotohira-gu Shrine: A journey of spiritual enlightenment

During this trip to Kotohira Shrine, I deeply experienced the power of gratitude. As I walked up the 1,368 stone steps, each step was filled with a review of the past and anticipation for the future. This is not only a physical challenge, but also a baptism of the soul.

At the foot of the 521-meter-high Elephant Head Hill, the spectacular sight of Kotohira Shrine is breathtaking. Standing in front of the Gohongu Shrine, I felt the power coming from the gods, as if telling me that every little effort in life is worth it. Especially at the hand-washing pavilion before the worship, I washed my hands with clean water and silently expressed my gratitude to my family and friends in my heart, thanking them for their companionship and support in my life.

Every place here is full of the weight of history, which made me deeply understand that both traditional festivals and local delicacies are the crystallization of the wisdom and hard work of the people of this land. The colorful rice crackers are not only delicious, but also make me feel the local people’s love for life.

During the entire trip, in addition to spiritual sustenance, there is also the joy of being close to nature. From the stone steps to the surrounding natural beauty, every breath is a gratitude for life. This trip not only allowed me to re-understand the history and culture of Kotohira Shrine, but also deepened my love and gratitude for life.

On the way back, I made a silent promise in my heart: no matter how difficult the road ahead is, I will cherish every moment with a grateful heart, because every step is worth cherishing. I hope to come back to this energetic place next time and feel the beauty again.
