Mount Koya in Wakayama Prefecture. It is a basin with an altitude of 800m and surrounded by mountains of 1000m. It is a religious city built by Kukai, who introduced Buddhism to Japan in the Heian period along with Saicho of the Tendai sect, and is considered a holy place of the Shingon sect.
The whole area is registered as a World Heritage Site✨
There are many things to see, such as the Great Pagoda and the rock garden! Even if you spend a whole day, it's a pain to see everything lol This photo was taken in August♫ It seems that snow accumulates in winter and the autumn leaves are beautiful. It is also famous as a flower spot, with rhododendrons, cherry blossoms in spring, and hydrangeas in early summer.
Access: Get off at Gokurakubashi Station on the Nankai Electric Railway, and then take the Koyasan Cable Car to Koyasan Station. From Koyasan Station, take the bus (to Daimon) for about 15 minutes and get off at the Kondo-mae bus stop.
