Kumamoto has suddenly become popular again after a major tech company established a factory there! Here's a look at some of the fun things to do in Kumamoto.
In downtown Kumamoto, you'll find must-see attractions like Kumamoto Castle, Sakuranobabajo Castle, and Suizenji Jojuen Garden. Further afield, the Aso area boasts natural wonders like the Aso Nakadake crater, Kusasenri, and the renowned Kurokawa Onsen.
Kumamoto Castle, damaged by the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, has since undergone a long-term restoration. The castle tower reopened to the public in 2021, but the complete restoration of the entire castle complex is expected to last until 2052.
Suizenji Jojuen Garden is Kumamoto City's most iconic Japanese garden, offering stunning views in every season.
Sakuranobabajo Castle resembles a small, cultural and creative district encompassing historic buildings, and weekend performances are sometimes held for visitors to enjoy.
