[Hokkaido] Get up close and personal with the red-crowned cranes! Akan International Crane Center

In winter, many red-crowned cranes migrate to the Kushiro Wetlands. They live in groups at several locations, and the Akan International Crane Center is one of them. The cranes are on the other side of a large building. Inside, there's an exhibit about crane conservation efforts. Compared to other migratory areas, they seem closer to the cranes. The grounds are quite spacious, so you can explore at your leisure. There's also a roadside station nearby, so be sure to check it out.
