Address: 400 Rinkacho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan 🇯🇵
Chionin Temple is the center of Jodo Buddhism, built 1234, and is dedicated to the founder of the Jodo sect, Honen. It is located in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto, Japan. The buildings include the temple, which is very large, reflecting the power of the Japanese people's faith in the Jodo sect. The Sanmon Gate, the entrance gate of the temple, is one of the largest and most magnificent wooden gates in Japan, standing 24 meters high and 50 meters wide. after passing through the gate, you will find the Otokozaka Mound, which is a staircase leading up to the main building. On both sides of the gate are cherry trees. when you walk up to the top, you will see a hand washing area where you must cleanse your hands and mouth according to the custom of entering a Japanese temple. This temple is a peaceful and fascinating destination that perfectly captures the historical, spiritual, and cultural heritage of Japan. I highly recommend you don't miss this gem when in Kyoto.
