The head shrine of the approximately 12,000 Tenmangu Shrines nationwide that enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning
A large 11.4-meter-tall torii gate facing Imadegawa Street.
A single pillar of Kiso granite
There were a few students on a school trip there at the time.
The plaque on the top is impressive.
Going through the first torii gate,
the imposing tower gate stands on the north side.
The huge gate is in the style of the Momoyama period,
with statues of attendant deities on both sides,
and on the front is the inscription "Bundo Daiso Fugetsu Honshu," a plaque praising Sugawara no Michizane.
The majestic main hall
It is not spectacular, but it has a sense of dignity.
The palace where Sugawara is worshiped and the worship hall are connected by a stone-paved corridor,
and it has been designated a national treasure as a valuable relic that conveys the history of shrine architecture.
It is also the prototype of the later Gongen-zukuri style,
and even when you go around to the back,
the structure is still magnificent.
Unfortunately, there were only a few cherry blossoms,
and some plum blossoms remained.
