Japan | Top Onsen Ryokan: FUFU

| Top Onsen Ryokan: FUFU. When it comes to luxury hot spring resorts in Japan, many people may first think of Hoshino Resorts. However, in recent years, another young local resort brand has been rapidly rising: FUFU.
·
FUFU's name has two meanings: one "FU" comes from the pleasant laughter of women, and the other "FU" comes from the pawn in Japanese shogi, meaning to move forward step by step. Currently, there are eight FUFU hotels in Japan, located in Atami, Kawaguchiko, Nikko, Kyoto, Hakone, Nara, and Karuizawa, each with its own unique characteristics and charm.

A Blend of Splendor and Elegance: A Luxurious and Refined Kyoto Accommodation
FUFU Kyoto continues the brand's consistent high-quality feel and incorporates the cultural heritage and Japanese aesthetics of the ancient Heian-kyo. The hotel is adjacent to Nanzen-ji Temple, the head temple of Japanese Zen Buddhism, and is surrounded by famous cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. It is also next door to Murin-an, a masterpiece of Japanese gardening.
·
The hotel preserves the original pond and spring garden, drawing water from the Lake Biwa Canal. The Japanese-style detached villa, "Yae Hitotsu," sits quietly in a corner of the garden. The red maple and green pine trees in front of the house are also original to the site. The four seasons of the garden can be enjoyed from some guest rooms, the restaurant, and the detached villa lounge.
·
The guest rooms also feature a spacious and comfortable suite layout, each with a natural hot spring cypress bath. The bath is made of high-quality Yoshino cypress from Japan, and the natural cypress fragrance lingers while bathing. The rooms are also equipped with iron kettles, sencha tea, handcrafted vases, and seasonal flowers, creating a sense of Kyoto's seasons and a rich ancient cultural atmosphere.
·
The restaurant cleverly uses delicate wooden lattice partitions, visually reminiscent of Kyoto's long, narrow alleys. There are not only private booths but also garden-view seats with open views, and traditional Kyo-yasai (Kyoto vegetables) are incorporated into the dishes.
·
The detached villa next to the garden can be used not only as a Japanese-style bar to welcome guests but also as a venue for enjoying geisha dances and experiencing Kyoto culture.
·
The hotel even collaborates with Murin-an to offer private yoga classes. Guests can rent a Japanese-style room at Murin-an and awaken their inner strength through yoga while overlooking the scenery of Higashiyama and the beautiful garden.
