Ready to fall in love with Kyoto? Here’s my ultimate must-see list of ancient temples, lantern-lit streets, and cultural gems that made my trip next-level 🌿✨
Top Spots to Visit in Kyoto:
Kenninji Temple (〒605-0811 Kyoto, Higashiyama Ward, Komatsuchō, 584): Open 10:00-16:30. Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple—don’t miss the dramatic dragon ceiling and the peaceful zen gardens. Early morning is best for crowd-free vibes!
Rokuharamitsuji Temple (81-1 Rokurocho, Higashiyama, 605-0813): Open 08:00-17:00. This underrated temple brims with history and quiet tranquility. Tip: Check out the wooden Kannon statue, it’s stunning up close.
Kiyamachi-dori (Kyoto, Japan): Open all day. This lively riverside street is perfect for a scenic stroll. Cherry blossom season here is pure magic, and it’s lined with small bars and cafes—ideal for an iced matcha break.
Yasui Kompira-gū Temple (70 Shimobentencho, Higashiyama, 605-0823): Open all day. Known for its unique ‘power stone’ for breaking off bad relationships and inviting in good ones. Try it (even just for the fun photos)!
Gion Corner (570-2 Gionmachi Minamigawa, Higashiyama, 605-0074): Shows at 18:00 & 19:00. Your ticket to geisha culture—watch traditional performances in a short, tourist-friendly show. Go a little early to snag a good seat!
Getting Around: Kyoto buses and subways are A+. Load an IC card for easy tap-on/tap-off rides. Walking between these spots is totally doable—and lets you soak up hidden alleys!
Eat This: Don’t skip matcha parfaits in Gion and yatsuhashi (cinnamon sweets). Grab ramen in Pontocho Alley for late-night eats.
Extra Tip: Most temples open early—beat the crowds and the heat by starting your day before 10AM!
