This amazing structure in Lisbon is the work of French-Portuguese structural engineer Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard.
The iron form looks like a scaled-down version of the Eiffel Tower, but it is an elevator that focuses more on function than appearance.
The Santa Justa Elevator, also known as the Carmo, was built to connect the upper and lower parts of Lisbon to allow people and commerce to move.
The original steam traction engine was replaced by an electric engine five years after its completion, and it is 45 meters high, and consists of two elevators, each carrying 25 passengers, balancing the load of the other.
It is a great place to view the whole of Lisbon and the night view.
