The Well of Time: The Tranquil Moments at Lilau Square

Lilau Square, tucked away in a corner of Macau's urban area, quietly witnesses the passage of time. Stepping into this uniquely charming square, an ancient stone well comes into view. The weathered stone walls around the well seem to tell the tale of its centuries-old history and the vicissitudes it has seen. It is said that this well once provided fresh water to sailors and residents. Although the well water is no longer in use, it remains a symbol of old Macau. The surrounding Portuguese-style buildings, with their soft colors, exude a strong Southern European ambiance. The square is filled with green trees, and the gentle afternoon breeze, along with the occasional chirping of birds and the sound of laughter, adds a touch of vitality to this serene space. Sitting on a stone bench in the square, I gaze at the Lilau Well, almost seeing the bustling scenes of people drawing water in the past and the anticipation of sailors embarking on new journeys. Every stone and every crack in the walls here holds a story, waiting for people to savor.
