Meteora is the name given to six Orthodox monasteries in a valley near the town of Kalambaka: St. Nikolaos Anapafsas, Great Meteora, Varlaam, Roussanou, Holy Trinity, and St. Stefanos. In the past, there were many more monasteries, but they were abandoned for a while. However, these six monasteries are now registered as a World Heritage Site. If you love nature, history, or want to experience peace and quiet, this is a place you shouldn't miss.
The easiest way to get there is to rent a car. But if you don't rent a car, if you come from a big city like Athens or Thessaloniki, there is a K.T.E.L. bus that will take you to Kalambaka. There is a bus from Kalambaka that will take you up to Meteora for 2 euros (4 euros round trip).
