Drvengrad, Kustendorf, or Mečavnik—these are all names for the same ethnic village created by the famous Serbian director during the filming of "Life is a Miracle."
🎬 Kustendorf has several dozen houses, a cinema, a library, restaurants serving national cuisine, and even a small church named after Saint Sava. All the buildings are made of wood, and the streets are named after famous people—Federico Fellini, Bruce Lee, Ernest Che Guevara, and others.
🏠 The director also has a house in the village, which he visits quite often, so the chances of seeing Emir Kusturica with his own eyes are very high. But unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky... or maybe I was just walking down the wrong street.
⛰️ Drvengrad is open to everyone. You can rent a guesthouse with a stunning view of the Mokra Gora National Park, catch the village vibe while strolling through the streets of this picturesque Serbian village, and sample traditional cuisine at one of the restaurants.
💡 Tip: Stay here at least one night; when the tourists leave, the village becomes very atmospheric. Not far from Drvengrad, you can ride the famous old narrow-gauge train, the Šarganska Osmica, a great addition to your visit.
