Kii-Katsuura | The Lonely Torii Gate in the Sea

A small hotspot in Katsuura, this is essentially a torii gate standing in the middle of the sea. It seems you can walk to the island during low tide (but don't attempt it lightly~).

Navigation📍Kumano Cafe, a 10-15 minute walk from JR Station.

The attraction itself might not be worth a special trip, but the walk there is quite pleasant~ You'll pass through local residential areas where you might stumble upon a beautiful tree or a charming little scene around the corner.

Met a super friendly dog along the way 🐶.

Besides the torii gate, the ocean views nearby are stunning. The sea here isn't calm—the waves are quite strong, whether seen from the rooms at Urashima Hotel or the cave hot springs. It's a reminder to always respect nature.

The café offers a great view, though it's a bit pricey. The food is decent, but the atmosphere is the main draw. There's also a foot bath nearby—I really love how these foot baths are everywhere here. So nice!
