Osu Kannon Shrine (大須観音) is one of Nagoya's most famous shrines. Located in the heart of the Osu Shopping District, a popular shopping area filled with restaurants, cafes, and authentic Japanese souvenirs, Osu Kannon Shrine is a must-see.
✨ Overall Atmosphere
As soon as you arrive, you'll see the large bright red torii gate and the shrine building, which boasts striking traditional Japanese architecture. It's a beautiful sight to photograph, especially in the morning or evening when the light reflects the shrine itself, creating a sense of tranquility and holiness.
🙏 Prayers
Before entering the shrine, there's a station to wash your hands and mouth to purify your spirit. Then, you can light incense and toss coins for a traditional Japanese offering (tossing a 5 yen coin is considered good luck). Japanese people often come here to pray for success in their studies, careers, and travel safety.

🛍️ Additional Recommendations
After your prayers, you can continue walking along Osu Shopping Street, which connects to the shrine. There are shops selling vintage goods, clothing, amulets, cosmetics, and a wide variety of Japanese snacks, such as takoyaki, mochi, and matcha smoothies. 🍵
💡 Tip: If you're visiting in the afternoon, try stopping by before sunset, as the surrounding shops start to close.
If you're visiting on a holiday, you might also catch a flea market or a small folk performance.
📍Getting there:
Get off at Osu Kannon Station (Tsurumai Line) and take Exit 2. It's a 2-minute walk.
