Welcome back to Explorer's travel diary. Today, we will go deep into the soul of Okinawa and explore Naminoue Shrine, which is considered the hub of Okinawan culture and history. 🌅
Naminoue Shrine is located in the core area of Naha City, Okinawa. The background of this shrine is a steep cliff, and overlooking the jewel-blue ocean. 🌊Hanoi-gu Shrine is not only the most important shrine in Okinawa, but also a spiritual beacon in the hearts of local people. Many major festivals and events are held here. 🎊
Among the eight major shrines in Ryukyu, Naminoue Shrine ranks first and is considered the "country's primary shrine" and is highly revered. This is a holy place where people pray toward "Nirai-Kanai (the Pure Land)". Ships trading with various countries would pass through Naha Port and look out at the high cliffs where the Naminoue Shrine and the shrine are located, praying for a safe voyage and expressing gratitude. Every January, the king would lead celebrities from all over the country to pay homage in an orderly manner and pray for peace in the country. 🙏
However, Naminoue Shrine was destroyed during World War II, but fortunately, the main hall and the shrine were rebuilt in 1949 after the war, and the front hall was rebuilt in 1949. In 1915, parts other than the main hall were completed by the Heisei Gozo-eki. In 2008, it was designated as a historical and cultural heritage of Naha City, and Naminoue Shrine once again radiates its historical and cultural brilliance. ⛩️
In the past, various gods gathered at Naminoue Shrine, where people prayed devoutly for national blessings, good relationships, safe pregnancies, safe travels, prosperity for offspring, and longevity. In recent years, the gods related to architecture, business prosperity, visits to newborn babies, warding off disasters, traffic safety and other various prayers have also been deeply respected, and Naminoue Shrine has been widely worshipped as the guardian deity of Okinawa. 🌟
If you explore further around Naminoue-gu Shrine, you’ll find a beach and a park, perfect for taking the kids or just enjoying a relaxing afternoon. 👨👩👧👦
Go down dozens of steps from Naminoue Shrine and you will arrive at Naminoue Beach. This is the only beach in the city of Okinawa. Although it is not as beautiful as those more famous beaches, it is unique in that you can see a shrine on the beach. 🏖
I highly recommend that every visitor to Okinawa come here to experience this sacredness and tranquility. Let's come here together at sunset. At this time, the sunset dyes the sky and the sea golden, which contrasts with the tranquility of the shrine, like a beautiful painting. 🌇
