An Exemplary Journey by the Jialing River, Hyatt Regency Nanchong Gaoping

The Hyatt Regency Nanchong Gaoping, highly praised by frequent travelers, has long been on my list, and this time I finally made a special trip to check it out. Hailing a cab in front of the train station, the driver enthusiastically recommended it, saying the hotel is located in the tallest building across from the Jialing River in all of Nanchong, and its towering presence can be seen from various parts of the city.

Standing tall by the river, it seems to reach for the sky. Arriving at the 29th-floor reception lobby, I looked down to see a panoramic view of mountains, cityscape, and riverscape. Such extraordinary stature and perspective are indeed rare within the Hyatt brand.

Since the owner is Mingyu, if you hold high-tier memberships with both, booking through Mingyu rather than Hyatt can be more beneficial, as the perks differ significantly. Globalist members only enjoy complimentary breakfast for two and room upgrades. However, the easily attained Mingyu Diamond status offers suite upgrades, plus breakfast and executive privileges. Therefore, before booking this hotel, securing Mingyu Diamond membership should be a priority.

The standard upgrade for Globalist members is to a river-view king room, which is available on every floor, but there is a huge difference in the interiors, with an area of about 55 square meters. In addition to different orientations, some rooms do not have bathtubs. It is advisable to inquire clearly before checking in.

I paid extra to upgrade to a suite, which has a living room, a bedroom, and two bathrooms, offering a spacious area with dominant river views on both sides. However, the level of decoration and hardware facilities is not much improved compared to the king room. Whether it is worth it depends on personal needs and choices.

The hotel's main strengths include a swimming pool located on the first floor. It only has two short lanes, but for the Hyatt brand, this is already quite exceptional. Remember to bring your swimsuit when you stay. Another strength is the breakfast, which seems to be tailored to the main customer base after research, featuring distinctive Bashu cuisine. The breakfast includes boboji and Sichuan-style cold noodles, which are very popular.

Unfortunately, there are also downgraded aspects, such as the toiletries, which have gone from Aesop to Bienvenue. It's like aiming for a 211 university but ending up at a community college level.

In conclusion, the Hyatt Regency Nanchong is indeed outstanding, but within a reasonable range of expectations. As for those who say it surpasses some other Hyatt hotels, I reserve my judgment. Nonetheless, it is definitely worth experiencing.
