We left Taipei City and traveled to small towns nearby for a day! We took the Pingxi Line train to see towns full of Taiwanese sentiment, flew sky lanterns in Shifen, and walked along the quiet streets of Jiufen to enjoy moments like a scene from a movie.✨

🚂 Pingxi Line Train Tour: Retro-inspired Trains

From Taipei Main Station to Ruifang Station, transfer to the Pingxi Line to start your real trip!

📍 Jingtong (菁桐)
The final stop of the Pingxi Line, it still has the atmosphere of an old mining town. You can feel the charm of this quiet town as you walk along the old train tracks and retro-inspired alleys.

📍 Shifen (十分)
The most famous town on the Pingxi Line! This is a place where you can fly lanterns in the middle of the train tracks. Many travelers make a wish here. If you write your wish on a lantern with a different meaning for each color and release it into the sky, it will be a special moment of your trip.

📍 Pingxi (平溪)
This is a town with a quieter atmosphere than Shifen. There are many old alleys and sentimental cafes, so it is good to take a leisurely look around.

🏮 Jiufen, a street that feels like you've walked into a movie

Jiufen is famous for being the setting for the Japanese animation Spirited Away. If you actually visit here, you can find places similar to the atmosphere in the movie.

✨ "Amei Tea House (阿妹茶樓)"
This is the most symbolic building in Jiufen. The red lanterns and traditional Taiwanese architecture combine to make you feel like you've stepped into a scene from an animation. It's also nice to drink tea inside the building and take your time admiring the scenery.

A shopping street along a narrow alley, where you can find various traditional snacks and souvenirs.

✔️ The Pingxi Line trains run frequently, so it is better to check the timetable in advance and travel.
✔️ When releasing lanterns in Shifen, the train timing is important! It is better to hurry and take pictures before the train arrives.
✔️ Jiufen is more atmospheric in the evening. If you go late in the afternoon and walk around when it gets dark, you can have a more emotional experience.
