New Taipei Ruifang and Jiufen: Must-Visit Destinations

New Taipei Ruifang, Jiufen can be said to be a must-visit photo spot in northern Taiwan - from Taipei all the way to Jiufen, needless to say with a beautiful mountain city view and strong nostalgic atmosphere "old-school slow life" sanctuary. This time I deliberately went on a small trip, took the train to Shifen, then changed the bus to Jiufen, avoided the weekend crowds, experienced the most authentic old street feeling, and a few delicacies really have to push! Let's see what we can't miss in Jiufen, New Taipei

Inventory of small shops in Jiufen Old Street

📍 Jiufen Old Street
Address: 224 Kishan Street, Ruifang District, New Taipei City, Taiwan
Opening Hours: 10:00-20:00 (year-round)

It is recommended to take the train from Shifen to Ruifang and change to the bus. It's really comfortable to go on weekdays. You don't have to be crowded with others and you can feel the slow life atmosphere. Both sides of Jiufen Old Street are lined with colorful nostalgic shops. There are many ancient delicacies waiting for you to discover.

🍦 Peanut ice cream roll
Jiufen Old Street’s famous peanut ice cream is handmade fresh from street stalls. Thin powdery skin, wrapped in milky ice cream, and sandwiched with peanut crumbs, super fragrant. On weekdays, there is no need to queue up. Everyone has to make a portion and sip while walking.

🍮 Honeycomb Cake (Brown Sugar Mochi)
One of the must-eats! The black sugar flavored honeycomb cake has QQ marshmallows inside, and the outer layer is as fluffy as a honeycomb hole. The bite is super special, sweet but not greasy.

🍵 A-mei's Teahouse
The photo-taking landmark of Jiufen, red lanterns and nostalgic architecture, is a place where everyone wants to take beautiful photos. Sit down and enjoy a cup of Taiwanese tea and chill quietly for a while while looking at the mountain and sea view. If you are looking for a quiet corner to take pictures, it is recommended to go early to avoid tour groups.

🥄 Aunt A-Kan's taro ball
Address: Jiufen Old Street (near the hillside)
Nine must-eat taro balls, Aunt A-Kan's taro balls are well-known. The taro balls are refreshing and fragrant, not too sweet. The best thing is that the seat can also see the view of the mountain city in the distance, which is very suitable for a short break when you are tired from walking. However, note that you have to go up a short flight of stairs to the taro shop - remember to walk slowly if you are not strong enough.

Itinerary tips
1. It is recommended to go to Shifen Falls or Shifen Old Street in the morning, you can feel a different suburban style, then switch to Jiufen, along the railway & bus are very convenient.
2. Very little crowd to Jiufen on weekdays, no need to wait & take pictures especially easy, especially suitable for camera control.
3. Walk the old street many stairs, alleys, remember to wear comfortable shoes, light clothing mainly.
4. Aunt A-Kan's taro ball staircase is not long, but the old street slope is high, leg strength must be prepared - the elderly or children hold the walk is no problem.
5. Taro & Honeycomb Cake and Peanut Ice Cream are recommended to try, the three flavors will definitely not step on the thunder!

Transportation Guidelines/Most Convenient Route
You can take the Taiwan Railway from Taipei to Ruifang Station. After getting off, there is a bus in Jiufen direction (e.g. 1062 directly), which takes about 20-30 minutes along the way.
