Introduction: Tamkang High School traces its origins back to 1882 and 1884, when Dr. George Leslie Mackay founded the Oxford College and Tamsui Girls' School. Oxford College is considered the birthplace of Western-style education in Taiwan, while Tamsui Girls' School was the first school for girls in Taiwan. During the Japanese colonial period, both schools were restructured into secondary schools, becoming the earliest schools in northern Taiwan attended by local students. In 1936, the Japanese government forcibly took over the schools, renaming them Tamsui Middle School and Tamsui Higher Girls' School. After World War II, the schools were renamed Tamkang High School and Chun Te Girls' School. In 1956, the two schools merged and were renamed Private Tamkang Senior High School, which remains its name today.
Tamkang High School upholds the motto "Love and Service." While rooted in its historical traditions, the school also adapts to modern educational trends, making it a century-old institution that combines traditional characteristics with contemporary teaching methods.
