This journey along Taiwan's North Coast was a rendezvous with sea breezes, crashing waves, and geological wonders. Despite the overcast skies, the gray clouds only accentuated the rugged beauty of this land.
The first stop of the trip was Fugui Cape Lighthouse, located at Taiwan's northernmost point. This black-and-white lighthouse stood out strikingly against the backdrop of a cloudy sky. Firmly perched on the green hill of the cape, it faced the roaring sea winds and waves that crashed against the rocks with thunderous sounds. Standing beneath the lighthouse, I felt the immense power of the ocean and the solitude and resilience of this century-old structure that has silently safeguarded maritime navigation.
After bidding farewell to Fugui Cape Lighthouse, I followed the coastline to the nearby Laomei Green Reef. Every late winter to early spring, the intertidal zone here becomes covered with vibrant green algae, clinging to volcanic rock formations and creating spectacular green grooves. Although it wasn't the greenest season, I could still imagine the magnificent scene of a green carpet stretching out to the sea. This unique geological landscape contrasted sharply with the lighthouse nearby—one showcasing human resilience, the other the gentle beauty of nature—both equally awe-inspiring.
This journey lacked the warmth of the sun but revealed the truest and wildest side of Taiwan's North Coast. The solitary black-and-white lighthouse and the seasonal beauty of Laomei Green Reef are etched deeply in my memory.
