The best time to view the crimson leaves is during the Frost Descent season. At this time, the vibrant crimson leaves of maple and sumac trees covering tens of millions of acres of hillsides and gullies are so vibrant they resemble falling petals from a distance, only becoming visible up close as oval leaves. It's said that the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi once lived in Fragrant Hill, so enchanted by the beautiful scenery that he nicknamed himself "Fragrant Hill Hermit."
