Nikko Futarasan Jinja Shrine (located in the mountains of Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture) regards Mt. Nantai (2,486 meters above sea level) as its sacred mountain. It is said that "Futarasan" is the ancient name of Mt. Nantai, which is derived from "Mount Potalaka", where Avalokitesvara lives, and the place name "Nikko" is derived from the inherent pronunciation of "Futarasan" in Japanese, "niko".
