The first stop on our six-day Hokkaido trip was Noboribetsu Hell Valley. Formed by the eruption of Mt. Hiyori, Noboribetsu Hell Valley is a volcanic crater approximately 450 meters in diameter and covering an area of approximately 11 hectares.
As you walk along the trail, you'll see fumaroles and boiling springs, and the strong smell of sulfur, reminiscent of a "hell where ghosts dwell," has earned the name "Noboribetsu Hell Valley." The trail is illuminated at night, earning it the nickname "Demon Fire Road." In the summer, a "Demon Fireworks Show" is held. If you're staying at a nearby hot spring hotel, this is a great place for an evening stroll.
At the end of the trail, you'll find the Iron Spring Pond, a geyser with temperatures reaching 80 degrees Celsius.
