If you’re looking for a surreal, once-in-a-lifetime experience, a 3-day tour across the Uyuni Salt Flats (Salar de Uyuni) and Bolivia’s Altiplano desert is pure magic. It’s not just a destination — it’s an adventure that feels like stepping into another world.
Day 1: The Mirror of the Sky
We started in Uyuni town, then headed straight to the vast white sea of salt. During the wet season, the flats reflect the sky perfectly — no filter needed. We visited Incahuasi Island, dotted with giant cacti, and ended the day with a fiery sunset over the salt flats. At night, we stayed in a salt hotel — yes, everything from the walls to the bed frames is made of salt!
Day 2: Colored Lagoons & Flamingos
We drove deep into the high-altitude desert past surreal landscapes: red rocks, volcanoes, and mineral-rich lakes. The highlight? The otherworldly Laguna Colorada, glowing red and full of flamingos. We also passed Desierto de Dalí (yes, it looks like a Salvador Dalí painting) and natural hot springs under the stars.
Day 3: Geysers & Moonlike Valleys
Waking up early, we visited the steaming Sol de Mañana geysers at sunrise, then passed by Laguna Verde at the foot of the Licancabur Volcano. The terrain shifts from salt flats to lunar valleys — it’s hard to believe all of this is on Earth.
Tips:
Bring warm clothes — nights are freezing, even in summer
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip balm are essential (you’re at 4,000+ meters!

Book with a reputable tour operator — this is not a DIY trip!
Uyuni wasn’t just a highlight of Bolivia — it was one of the most breathtaking trips of my life. You’ll laugh, freeze, gasp, and take a thousand photos. And yes, you’ll want to come back.
