Korakuen in Okayama is one of the most famous daimyo gardens from the Edo period. It was commissioned by Tsunamasa Ikeda, the lord of Okayama, and constructed by his retainer Nagatada Tsuda, starting in 1687 and reaching a provisional completion in 1700.
Along with Kairakuen in Mito and Kenrokuen in Kanazawa, it is known as one of Japan's Three Great Gardens and has been designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty by the Japanese government.
