The Majestic Black Castle: Okayama Castle and the Stunning Collaboration with Korakuen Garden

Okayama Castle, affectionately known as "Ujo" (Crow Castle), is one of Japan's iconic castles, distinguished by its striking black exterior walls. Built by Ukita Hideie, a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, this historic castle features a golden shachihoko (mythical carp) that gleams against the blue sky. Renovated in 2022, the castle has transformed into a modern attraction with contemporary exhibits and projection mapping displays.

Inside the castle, visitors can try on samurai armor or experience making Bizen pottery, a specialty of Okayama, ensuring a fun time for couples and friends alike. Just across the bridge from the castle lies Korakuen, one of Japan's three most famous gardens, offering a serene space filled with greenery and water. The garden is especially recommended during the autumn foliage season or when it is illuminated at night.
