⛰ When it comes to cherry blossom viewing in Kansai, classic spots like Yoshinoyama in Nara, Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto, and Osaka Castle in Osaka always steal the spotlight. ⛩ But actually, in Osaka, there is a lesser-known cherry blossom spot that only opens for a short 7 days at the end of the cherry blossom season in mid-April every year!
🔹 Mint Factory
🏭 The original site of the Japan Mint Osaka Main Office was a thermal power plant, built in 1911 and converted into a mint factory in 1969. Since it was built during the Meiji era when Japan opened to the Western world, it features Western-style architecture.
🪙 The museum exhibits many rare coins from Japan and around the world, and also houses the world's oldest English-Japanese dictionary, as well as Japan's earliest Western-style gas lamp 💡. During the visit, you can watch the coin-making process through glass and even touch real gold and silver bars 💰.
🔹 Cherry Blossom Avenue
🔒 The Osaka Mint Bureau has strict access control on regular days, only opening parts of the museum and factory for visits. But during the cherry blossom season every year, the gate restrictions are lifted, and it is open for free visits for one week—a rare opportunity 🎆.
🌸 The Cherry Blossom Avenue is a 560-meter-long path entering from the south gate and exiting from the north gate. Walking through it feels like bathing in a shower of flowers, stepping on a carpet of cherry blossoms, with noble pink, pure white, and vibrant red colors interwoven like a dream 🎀.
🌈 About 340 cherry trees of 141 varieties are planted along the entire path, including Matsuzuki, Yang Guifei, Shibayama, and many rare varieties. The most abundant are the late-blooming double-flowered cherry trees ☺.
🏆 Every year, the Mint Bureau selects one cherry blossom variety from many to promote as the annual flower, and it is always different, never repeated. With so many cherry blossom varieties at the Mint Bureau, 💯 it would take a hundred years to repeat!
