Founded in 1915, Tennoji Zoo is the second oldest zoo in Japan. It is located within Tennoji Park in Osaka City, covering an area of about 11 hectares. The zoo houses over 200 species and more than 1,000 animals, including lions, giraffes, polar bears, penguins, and more.
The zoo’s biggest feature is its "natural environment simulation" concept, with exhibits designed to mimic regions such as the African savannah and Asian tropical rainforest, giving animals more space to move freely. The polar bear area and penguin house are especially popular with children. Permanent exhibits also include educational panels and interactive installations, making it ideal for family visits.
The zoo is connected to the Shinsekai shopping district and Tsutenkaku Tower, making travel routes convenient. Ticket prices are affordable, making it a popular weekend leisure spot for Osaka residents. It is accessible by walking from the "Dobutsuen-mae Station" or "Tennoji Station" on the subway. If you want to experience the charm of nature and animals in the city center, Tennoji Zoo is a great choice.
